Galaxy of Dorian Gray

NASA has made some observations about the galaxy called "I Zwicky 18", ruling out the possibility that it is a young galaxy in the nearby universe, as was believed until now.  It can actually be considered an adult, that looks young and that resembles galaxies typically found only in the early Universe.  However, Hubble has found faint stars, older within this galaxy, suggesting that "I Zwicky 18" may have formed while many other galaxies .

The Hubble data also allowed astronomers for the first time to identify Cepheid variable stars in "I Zwicky 18."  The brightness of these stars has been used also to determine the distance that is "I Zwicky 18" of us, is about 59 million light years from Earth , almost 10 million light years distant than previously thought.
