This ghostly image was
obtained in August 2009 with the vision of wide-field Mosaic Camera on the
Mayall 4-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory. This cloud of
cosmic dust, called vdB 141, is a reflection nebula located in the
constellation Cepheus, approximately 1,200 light-years away.
Sometimes referred
to as the "Ghost Nebula", its complicated name is its number in the
catalog of reflection nebulae Sidney van den Bergh, published in 1966.
Within the nebula are
several stars whose light gives a macabre brown. And you, do you see the ghost?
