Full moons occur when the phase near full moon
coincides with the lunar perigee, when the Moon is closest to the 19 March 2011
was 356,577 miles away. The last time the moon was this close was in 1993
when 356,529 km perigee occurred 18 years ago.No wait that long for the next giant full moon, this
will occur on November 14, 2016 at 11:24 UT the Moon is just 356,511 miles
away.
